May 17th Report
The last week has been a bit challenging due to persistent Northwesterly winds. The winds are going to subside by Friday, so things look good for the weekend.
The Gulf Island's have been the place to be over the last couple weeks with good numbers of fish up to 25 pounds. There has been the odd slower day mixed in but on average we have been hooking 5 to 8 nice chinook salmon on a full day trip. In addition to the salmon, ling cod fishing has been very good off Gabriola Island. From now until late June we really recommend 10 hour trips to the Gulf Island's.
Locally the fishing has been hit or miss. On a good morning we been hooking a handful of nice fish and on some days we have to work really hard for a hook up or two!
Crabbing in English Bay has been very good and will continue to be until the commercial season opens later in June!
Give us a call or an email to book a Gulf Island's charter!
The offshore waters of Bowen Island sustains one of the better fisheries of the year in local waters between the beginning of April and the latter part of May.It is not a really challenging fishery as there is no real structure or "hotspots". The fish are scattered from Vancouver Harbour out into Georgia Strait and into Cape Roger Curtis and Cowan Point. The key is to cover ground and if you hit a fish or two, work that area until you no longer get any hits. Anchovies will start to play a bigger role in local fishing now that the years first plankton bloom has hit. Having said that, green glow spoons and hootchies are also very effective. On the ebbing tide areas to focus are offshore a few miles of Cowan Point and Cape Roger Curtis. On the flood tide the outer reaches of Vancouver Harbour can be quite productive. Productive depths seem to be from 70-150 feet on the downriggers. It is always a good idea to stagger your lines as these fish are suspended and moving around quite a bit.
May 10th Report
We have had our best chinook fishing of the year in the last week! On average we have been hooking 6 to 14 chinook salmon per full day charter over on the eastern shoreline of Gabriola Island. There is obviously the odd slow period thrown in, but the morning bite has been pretty hard to beat this week. The tides have been really strong over the last few days with the full moon, so with any luck fishing could get even better this weekend with more mellow tides. Hootchies and spoons have been best as usual over there. The fish have been scattered in depth from 50 to 160 feet.
Locally, we had a decent day off the "Hump" yesterday landing a couple of beauties, including a 21 pounder! The fish have been quite a bit shallower than normal this year, 40 to 100 feet have been the ticket over the last week.
We highly recommend a full 10 hour day trip to the Gulf Island's right now. Give us a call or email if you would like to book a trip!

April 10th Report
April is the time of year where Vancouver area waters start to really come alive with anglers and chinook salmon! The Easter Long Weekend typically signifies the start of the South Bowen Island Chinook Fishery!

Crabbing has been very good in Vancouver Harbour!! Prawning has also been solid in Howe Sound!
The Gulf Islands have been pretty quiet as of late with only a few good reports so far this spring. This will all change in the couple weeks. The Gulf Islands really can't be beat for chinook salmon in May and June!
The last 10 days have been pretty slow overall. We have had a few nice fish back to the dock, but it has been a bit of a grind to get a few hook ups each trip. However, yesterday and today showed some very encouraging signs with some bigger fish up to 21 pounds hooked in local waters. It is looking like the local South Bowen Fishery is going to perk up right on schedule.
Bon Chovy has purchased a new boat for the 2012 season, a 30 foot Grady White Marlin. This boat is the largest boat in its class in Vancouver and is an amazing fishing boat! It has all the bells and whistles including a stand up head and heat! In addition to new boat.... we added a second great location......Granville Island! So, we now have two of Vancouver's most convenient locations, Coal Harbour and Granville Island!
Give us a call if you would like to book a charter or a Bowen Island overnight fishing trip! We have some great packages available! April and May are great months for overnights! (view packages available).
Check out our Facebook Page. We are giving away a free charter for 6 on our new boat.

February 15th Fishing Report
Fishing has picked up over the last week! Things were a little tough at the beginning of last week, but fishing has picked up quite nicely over the last 5 or 6 days! We have been hooking 3 to 6 decent fishing a trip recently. We have been fishing quite a few different locations over the last week! TheWest Van Shoreline, the freighters in Vancouver Harbour, upper Howe Sound, and the Gulf Islands have all produce fish for us! We had some nice fish into the mid teens on our boats this week!
February and March are typically great months for winter chinook salmon fishing in the Vancouver area! The fish are feeding and fattening up and are eager to bite. The key is finding them......obviously. If there is no bait, there is not likely to be a big concentration of winter chinook salmon. Keep your gear in the bottom 25% of the water column and look for bait, or fish areas where bait is likely to roll through at some point in the day!
Crabbing and prawning have been really good.
From now until March 15th we are running a Winter Chinook Salmon Charter Special. For $409.00 we are offering fully guided 5 hour fishing charters for up to 4 people. Here is a link for more info...
