SPRING CHARTER SPECIAL 8 hour charter= $450.00/$495.00

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 12:47 pm

The weather is warming up and the fish are getting bigger! From now until the end of April we are offering 8 hour local charters for the price of our 5 hour charters. So an 8 hour charter for 1-2 people is $450.00 and $495.00 for 3-5 people. These rates do not include GST and fishing licences.

The spring is often the best time for numbers of chinook salmon in the 8-25 pound range in the Vancouver saltchuck. Already this month we have seen some very impressive sized chinook salmon on our boats and have heard good reports as well. Crabbing is also fantastic in April and traps are dropped on every charter. Give us a call or an email and we can get you out on the water for some great spring salmon fishing and crabbing. This is the first time we have ever offered this deal and it is only good till April 30/2009. Call soon if you want prime weekend dates. This is one of the best fishing deals of the year!

Vancouver Harbour Report, March 22

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 2:45 pm

After hearing some good reports from the mid harbour yesterday we were optimistic about today. We started working with a handful of other boats in the middle of the harbour and were quickly into quite a few juvenille chinook, mostly shakers. These small chinook that were biting grabbed the attention of a persistent harbour seal. He stole one off our lines and we decided to re locate to avoid further seal encounters. We headed over to the West Van shoreline and caught word that Eddie, a long time Vancouver guide landed a fish in the low teens and lost one that was bigger. We were encouraged and headed back out to join the other boats. Made a few passes of the QB and hooked nothing but a few little guys. The Northwest wind picked up late in the morning and we did a long tack down West Van with the chop. Right off the rock jetties we got a good pop off and hook up. Ten minutes later we had a 17 pound chinook in the boat. Nice to see the quality of fish in the harbour right now. You have to work for your bigger fish, but they are there. A few boats had some decent action up in the northern part of Howe Sound as well.

Vancouver Harbour Report, March 10

img_19292 Landed a couple beauties with Craig and Leo today. After doing some work on the boats in the morning we decided to take advantage of the brilliant sunshine and the mid day tide change to fish the inner harbour. We got the gear in the water just after noon. The tide was pretty mixed up for the first hour. As soon as the tide calmed down we got a good pop off and hooked and landed a mint 14-15 pound winter chinook salmon. About an hour later as the flood started to kick in we hooked another good one. After a couple good runs, a local harbour seal latched on to it. After a good tug of war with the seal we were eventually victorious and brought another good sized winter spring to the net. The fish was a little larger than the first, albeit with a bit of seal damage. The fish would have been in the 15-16 pound range if it was not missing a chunk of it’s belly. We hooked another good fish around 5pm but it quickly got off. The fish that we hooked were on coyotes. What a beauty of a day on the water with calm water and a couple solid fish in the mid teens, fishing 10 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

EARLY MARCH FISHING UPDATE

BON CHOVY FISHING REPORT, MARCH 3/09

The local saltchuck has had some nice quality fish around. Unfortunately, you have to put your time in to get them. The good bump of winter chinook that came into Vancouver Harbour and Howe Sound in January and early February have dispersed and now some days require a lot of searching. This past weekend there was a few nice fish taken in Howe Sound and a few nice fish taken in the outer reaches of Vancouver Harbour. The fish that have been getting picked up have been on the standard winter chinook gear. Coyote spoons (green, white and chrome), anchovies, and hootchies (white, glow, purple haze, splatterbacks) are all good bets this time of year. The bulk of the chinook are being caught in the bottom third of the water column like usual. As the water warms and the clarity decreases more and more chinook salmon will suspend in the mid water.

As we progress into the spring we should see the action pick up in the Strait of Georgia and the Gulf Islands. The springtime angling in Vancouver can be some of the best of the year for chinook salmon. The Gulf Island are typically really good in May,June, andJuly.

We are now booking overnight trips to the Gulf Islands! The Gulf Islands fishing package is one of the most convenient and affordable fishing packages in BC right now. Included is 2 full days of fishing and accomodation at a seaside cabin! Packages start at $485 US/$579 Cdn per person!
