Vancouver Harbour Report, March 22
After hearing some good reports from the mid harbour yesterday we were optimistic about today. We started working with a handful of other boats in the middle of the harbour and were quickly into quite a few juvenille chinook, mostly shakers. These small chinook that were biting grabbed the attention of a persistent harbour seal. He stole one off our lines and we decided to re locate to avoid further seal encounters. We headed over to the West Van shoreline and caught word that Eddie, a long time Vancouver guide landed a fish in the low teens and lost one that was bigger. We were encouraged and headed back out to join the other boats. Made a few passes of the QB and hooked nothing but a few little guys. The Northwest wind picked up late in the morning and we did a long tack down West Van with the chop. Right off the rock jetties we got a good pop off and hook up. Ten minutes later we had a 17 pound chinook in the boat. Nice to see the quality of fish in the harbour right now. You have to work for your bigger fish, but they are there. A few boats had some decent action up in the northern part of Howe Sound as well.
