June 6 Fishing Udate
Things are looking promising for this years coho fishery! Over the last couple days there have been some coho showing and getting hooked in Vancouver Harbour and off the south side of Bowen Island. There is not many being caught yet, but it is very encouraging to see them showing this early. The local coho fishery typically really gets going in late June but we might get lucky this year and have a good showing in the next week or two. In 2000 and 2001 a good bump of coho came into the harbour in early to mid June. There has been some chinook being caught off of Spanish Banks, the QB, West Vancouver, and the Gulf Islands this week. As June progresses we should see more chinook and coho of off West Vancouver. The West Vancouver fishery is a convenient fishery for us as it is minutes from our docks at the Westin Bayshore in downtown Vancouver. Crabbing has continued to be excellent in the harbour with limit catches the norm.
