HARBOUR REPORT DEC 28

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 8:51 pm

ANOTHER SOLID DAY WINTER CHINOOK FISHING IN VANCOUVER HARBOUR! IT STARTED OFF PRETTY SLOW BUT A GOOD BITE CAME ON IN THE AFTERNOON. WE HOOKED A TOTAL OF 10 WINTER CHINOOK SALMON. MOST OF THE FISH WE HOOKED WERE IN THE 20-24 INCH RANGE BUT WE DID HOOK 3 LEGAL FISH. WE WERE NOT THE ONLY ONES GETTING FISH. A BUDDIES BOAT BESIDE US LANDED A COUPLE NICE KEEPERS AND A FEW UNDERSIZE AND A SMALL TIN BOAT ALSO BOATED A NICE LEGAL WINTER CHINOOK. FURTHER OUT IN THE BAY ANOTHER BOAT LANDED A COUPLE LEGAL FISH AS WELL. IT LOOKS LIKE THE FISH ARE NICELY SPREAD OUT THROUGHOUT THE HARBOUR. THERE WASN’T MUCH BAIT AROUND TODAY, BUT THERE WAS DEFINATELY FISH AROUND. HOWE SOUND ALSO KICKED OUT A COUPLE FISH AS WELL. THINGS ARE DEFINATELY PICKING UP AND THE KEEPER RATIO IS GOING UP EVERY WEEK. HERE IS A COUPLE RECENT PICS.

VANCOUVER HARBOUR REPORT DECEMBER 27

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 7:18 pm

HAD A GREAT CHARTER TODAY WITH CALM WATER, CLEAR SKIES, AND GOOD ACTION. WE STARTED FISHING THE INNER HARBOUR TO CATCH THE END OF THE FLOOD TIDE. IT WAS QUIET FOR THE FIRST LITTLE WHILE UNTIL WE FOUND A POCKET OF FISH. WE WERE ABLE TO LAND 7 UNDERSIZE AND ONE NICE KEEPER IN A COUPLE HOURS. AFTER THE BITE SLOWED DOWN WE TACKED A LITTLE FURTHER INTO THE GUT OF THE HARBOUR AND LANDED ANOTHER SMALL CHINOOK SALMON. CRABBING WAS PRETTY SOLID AS WELL WITH 10 NICE KEEPERS TO TAKE HOME. GREAT START TO THE WINTER CHINOOK SALMON SEASON. LATE DECEMBER THRU MARCH IS PRIME TIME FOR WINTER SALMON FISHING IN VANCOUVER.

DECEMBER 20 VANCOUVER HARBOUR REPORT

Got off to a good start this morning in the inner harbour this morning. We landed a nice lergal chinook within the first 15 minutes of the charter. For the next hour we were kept reasonably busy with some smaller salmon. Then it went dead for us with not much action for the rest of the trip. Crabbing was decent. Crabbing will just get better and better now that the commercial season has ended.

We have some good tides coming up this week so things look good for some Christmas salmon fishing!

WINTER CHINOOK SALMON REPORT…DEC 15

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 12:57 pm

Winter chinook fishing has picked up in Vancouver Harbour over the last 10 days. A lot of the fish are still just under the legal size limit, but there are some nice legal fish thrown in the mix. There has been more legal fish around in the last few days especially. On Sunday, December 13 we lost a couple of very solid winter chinook and hooked another 8 more smaller winter chinook in the 20-25 inch range

There has been LOTS of bait in Vancouver Harbour, especially in the middle. We have been working Jericho, the mile markers, mid harbour, and the West Vancouver shoreline. We have been getting the majority of our action on coyote spoons run behind green and chartreuse flashers. It is the same old story right now…you need to find the bait to find the fish. This time of year is definately the time to watch your sounder. The winter springs have been in the bottom 1/3 of the water column. We have hooked a few fish as much as 40 feet off the bottom over the last few days. Winter chinook salmon are known to be very close to the bottom in the winter.

Howe Sound has still been producing some nice fish as well. The usual spots on the back side of Bowen Island have been best.

The commercial dungeness crab season finally closed iin Vancouver Harbour on the 1st of December so crabbing is is picking back up. We are dropping crab traps on every charter right now.

Now thru March is the time when winter chinook fishing is at its best in Vancouver Harbour! Check out our blog at www.bonchovy.com/blog for frequent winter fishing updates.

Give us a call to book a winter chinook salmon charter. We are taking reservations during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Ask about our great winter rates!!!

VANCOUVER HARBOUR REPORT…DECEMBER 13

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 8:02 pm

TODAY WAS THE BEST DAY OF WINTER CHINOOK FISHING WE HAVE HAD YET THIS YEAR. WE HAD A CRACK AT LEGAL AND UNDERSIZE FISH…UNFORTUNATELY OUR CONVERSION RATIO FROM HOOK UPS TO LANDING SUCKED TODAY. WE HAD A TOTAL OF 1O DECENT FISH HIT THE GEAR THROUGHOUT THE DAY.(BY DECENT FISH..I MEAN FISH OVER 20 INCHES) WE LOST A COUPLE VERY DECENT, SUMMER LIKE FISH CLOSE TO OUR DOCK LOCATION. TOO BAD AS WE COULD HAVE POSTED SOME GOOD NUMBERS..OH WELL, THAT’S FISHING! WE WERE RUNNING A COUPLE .RODS ON THE BOTTOM SEEKING OUT BAIT BALLS. OUR ACTION WAS DIRECTLY CORRELATED TO THE PRESCENCE OF BAIT. WHEN THERE WAS NO BAIT, THERE WAS NO FISH. THE TIDES EFFECT WHERE THE BAIT IS RIGHT NOW. WE ARE HEADING BACK OUT TOMORROW TO SEE IF WE CAN IMPROVE OUR RATIO!!

DECEMBER 9 UPDATE…VANCOUVER HARBOUR

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 6:39 pm

COULD NOT RESIST THE BLUE SKIES AND FLAT WATER TODAY. IT WAS A LITTLE CHILLY OUT THERE..BUT VERY PLEASANT. WE DID SOME NICE LONG TACKS IN VANCOUVER HARBOUR. THERE WAS LOTS OF BAIT AND DECENT ACTION WITH WINTER CHINOOK NEAR THE LEGAL SIZE LIMIT. HOOKED A FEW WINTER CHINOOK IN THE 20-24 INCH RANGE AND A FEW SMALLER ONES AS WELL. NOT TO BAD FOR A FEW HOURS ON THE WATER. THERE HAVE BEEN MORE KEEPERS THROWN IN THE MIX OVER THE LAST HANDFUL OF DAYS..SO IT LOOKS LIKE THINGS ARE GETTING BETTER. DEFINATELY A BETTER START TO THE WINTER FISHERY THAN LAST YEAR. GONNA HEAD OUT TOMORROW AS WELL. CRAIG WITH A WINTER CHINOOK TODAY BEFORE RELEASING IT
