WINTER CHINOOK SALMON REPORT…DEC 15

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 12:57 pm

Winter chinook fishing has picked up in Vancouver Harbour over the last 10 days. A lot of the fish are still just under the legal size limit, but there are some nice legal fish thrown in the mix. There has been more legal fish around in the last few days especially. On Sunday, December 13 we lost a couple of very solid winter chinook and hooked another 8 more smaller winter chinook in the 20-25 inch range

There has been LOTS of bait in Vancouver Harbour, especially in the middle. We have been working Jericho, the mile markers, mid harbour, and the West Vancouver shoreline. We have been getting the majority of our action on coyote spoons run behind green and chartreuse flashers. It is the same old story right now…you need to find the bait to find the fish. This time of year is definately the time to watch your sounder. The winter springs have been in the bottom 1/3 of the water column. We have hooked a few fish as much as 40 feet off the bottom over the last few days. Winter chinook salmon are known to be very close to the bottom in the winter.

Howe Sound has still been producing some nice fish as well. The usual spots on the back side of Bowen Island have been best.

The commercial dungeness crab season finally closed iin Vancouver Harbour on the 1st of December so crabbing is is picking back up. We are dropping crab traps on every charter right now.

Now thru March is the time when winter chinook fishing is at its best in Vancouver Harbour! Check out our blog at www.bonchovy.com/blog for frequent winter fishing updates.

Give us a call to book a winter chinook salmon charter. We are taking reservations during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Ask about our great winter rates!!!
