VANCOUVER FISHING REPORT..APRIL 29

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 6:12 pm

WE HAD SOME CONTINUED GOOD RESULTS OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS!  WE  HAVE AVERAGED BETWEEN 5 TO 10 HOOK UPS A TRIPS WITH A MIXTURE OF NICE CHINOOK UP TO 20 POUNDS, UNDERSIZE CHINOOK, AND SMALL COHO.  YESTERDAY MORNING WE HAD A CRACK AT 10 FISH, LANDING ONE LEGAL CHINOOK AND 3 UNDERSIZE.  IN THE AFTERNOON CRAIG ON THE SALTY DOG HAD SOME DECENT ACTION LANDING A FEW UNDERSIZE AND A NICE MID TEENS CHINOOK.  THE FISH ARE IN POCKETS AND IF YOU CAN FIND A POCKET OF FISH AND WORK IT, YOU CAN GET SOME PRETTY QUICK ACTION..  THERE WAS A COUPLE REPORTS OF KILLER WHALES FEEDING OFF THE SOUTH END OF BOWEN ON TUESDAY, WHICH COULD OF BEEN A REASON OF A LITTLE MORE SPORADIC ACTION YESTERDAY.

APRIL 25th REPORT

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 4:26 pm

Had a fantastic day on the water today!!  We had lots of action with 15 salmon hitting the gear!!  The most of active day of the spring for us so far!!  We got unlucky on quite a few fish but we still ended up landing 3 legal chinook, 1 hatchery coho, 1 wild coho, and an undersize chinook.  We found most of the fish reasonably close to the Bowen Island shoreline with hootchies and anchovies as the weapons of choice.  The largest chinook of the day was just over the 2o pound mark and put up a good fight.  It was nice to see a couple coho so early in the year…hopefully signs of a good coho fishery this year.  We were not the only ones getting action..most of the other boats had good results as well.  Now is the time to get out there!    Crabbing was amazing as well, with easy limits.

Vancouver Fishing Update, April 24

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 12:04 pm

There has been some pretty solid results over the last week off the South End of Bowen Island.  The only thing that is making things a little challenging is the wind.  When the wind stays down..almost every boat out there is hooking fish!  Jay T. on the Salty Dog had a great day yesterday landing 3 legal chinook in the 11-15 pound range and losing a few more.  img_93161-2

Vancouver Harbour Report…April 12

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 10:04 pm

Had a solid evening in Vancouver Harbour today.  After a blustery morning and tough fishing conditons we decided to go catch the evening slack tide in the outer harbour.  We were immediately rewarded with a couple nice chinook salmon!  We fished for just over an hour and landed a couple beauties!  Looks  like the fish are comin in right on schedule!  April is always one of the better months for chinook salmon in Vancouver!img002051

Well after a slow stretch of salmon fishing we had a great day on the water today…We fished Vancouver Harbour for the day an d had a crack at 6 decent fish and a handful of undersize salmon..  We ended the day with a couple nice keepers.  Unfortunately more fish got off than got in the boat, but it was still an active day..Over the last couple years good chinook salmon fishing has started in the second week of April.  Hopefully the fishing keeps getting better!!!img002001

Early April Fishing Update

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 10:51 am

Well spring is here and good fishing is just around the corner.  April is typically one of the best months to fish for Chinook salmon in local Vancouver waters.  Usually the fishing really picks up during the first or second week of April with good numbers of Chinook salmon in the 8-25 pound range. The local fleet usually targets the south side of Bowen Island in the spring.   Vancouver Harbour, Howe Sound, and the Gulf Islands will hold fish in the springtime as well.

In the spring it is a good idea to start running bait again.  It is tough for a Chinook to resist a nicely rolled anchovy in the spring!  The fish will start to suspend in the water column this time of year, so it is not necessary to always be worried about running your gear near the bottom like you have to in the winter.  Productive depths in the springtime typically range from 50-150 feet off the south side of Bowen Island, 50-120 feet in Vancouver Harbour, and from 100-200 in Howe Sound and the Gulf Islands.

There has been an amazing amount of Pacific Grey cod in our waters over the last few months….especially in Howe Sound.  It is a good idea to check your gear frequently, because if you miss the initial hit you will likely tow them around for quite some time not realizing that they are on the line!  They are quite tasty as well!

Crabbing has been very good in Vancouver Harbour and traps are being dropped on all charters!  Prawning in Howe Sound has been very good as well and we have been dropping prawn traps on our 8 and 10 hour charters!

Give us a call to book a spring fishing charter!  April and May are some of the best months for numbers of Chinook salmon!
