JULY 31 UPDATE

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 6:08 pm

WE HAVE HAD SOME INCREDIBLY CONSISTENT FISHING OVER THE LAST TEN DAYS!!  WE HAVE BEEN HOOKING LOTS OF COHO AND SOME NICE CHINOOK SALMON!   WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE BEST COHO FISHING WE HAVE HAD IN VANCOUVER FOR A FEW YEARS NOW.  ON AVERAGE WE HAVE BEEN HOOKING 8-15 FISH A CHARTER RECENTLY.  THERE IS OBVIOUSLY THE ODD SLOW TIDE, BUT OVERALL WEST VAN HAS BEEN VERY GOOD.  WE MADE IT OVER TO THE GULF ISLANDS A FEW TIMES THIS WEEK AND HAD GOOD SUCCESS ON CHINOOK.  IT WILL BE ANY DAY NOW THAT THE POINT GREY BELL BUOY PERKS UP FOR THE BIG SUMMER CHINOOK.  OVER THE LAST COUPLE YEARS THE BELL BUOY HAS REALLY GOTTEN GOING DURING THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF AUGUST!!  IT IS LOOKING LIKE THEIR WILL BE AN OPENING FOR SOCKEYE AS WELL IN THE FIRST WEEK OR TWO OF           AUGUST.  LOTS OF GOOD STUFF GOIN ON RIGHT NOW!

Weekend Report…JULY 18

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 7:52 pm

What a great weekend of fishing!  The coho fishing was about as good as it gets in Vancouver!  Today, on Bon Chovy we started off slow but we really caught fire later in the tide.  At the end of the day we ended up hooking 25 coho salmon, landing 9 of them!  There were also some nice chinook caught by our boats this weekend up to 27 pounds.  We hit a few chinook in the harbour and a handful off West Van over the last couple days!  Here are some pics from the last couple days!!

Well fishing has been solid over the last few days…including today!  Good report from a different spots today.  In the morning Van Herring had some great action oan mature chinook salmon up to 20 pounds off of Point Grey.  They hooked 8 good chinooks, landing 3 of them.  All the action was around the tide change in the morning.  Anchovies were the ticket.  Bon Chovy hit the West Van shoreline afternoon and had a crack at 10 coho salmon.  The Gulf Islands also had some really good action this morning!   Things are definately looking good!!!!!!!!j-007

JULY 1 REPORT

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 6:06 pm

Sorry about the lack of udates lately.. I just finished a 3 week coastal fishing trip from Vancouver to the Alaskan border chasing big chinook salmon!!

Today, the local action picked up with some nice coho salmon up to 8 pounds and a few larger chinook salmon hooked.  The majority of the fleet was working the western half of the West Vancouver shoreline with pretty decent success.  Most boats had a crack at 5-10 fish this morning so not too bad at all.  With the drying trend in the forecast we should see the numbers of fish increase daily.  Right now there is an incredible amount of crab larvae in English Bay.  The fish are definately feeding on them.  Hootchies in pale and white colours seem to be the ticket right now from 20-60 feet.

The Gulf Islands kicked out a few fish up to 25 pounds today as well.

Finally some clear, hot weather is forecasted in a few days….Finally we can be catching fish in our shorts and flip flops again.
