We had a busy weekend with some decent fishing on Saturday and a tough windy day today. Both “Iron Marlin” and “Van Herring” headed across to the Gulf Island’s yesterday! Fishing was ok, but not great by Gulf Island standards. Both boats had a shot at a handful of fish, keeping a couple nice one’s each. Iron Marlin found some nice ling cod in tight to Gabriola and released a dandy over 30 pounds!! One of the reason’s for the slower fishing this weekend could have been the pod of killer whales that have been plying the waters off Thrasher Rock for the last few evening.

Bon Chovy had a decent afternoon deep inside Vancouver Harbour yesterday with a couple nice fish!

Today was slow with windy conditions making for tough fishing…

Now is the time we are recommending longer days to the Gulf Islands!

On average we have been hooking 6 to 14 chinook salmon per full day charter over on the eastern shoreline of Gabriola Island. There is obviously the odd slow period thrown in, but the morning bite has been pretty hard to beat this week. The tides have been really strong over the last few days with the full moon, so with any luck fishing could get even better this weekend with more mellow tides. Hootchies and spoons have been best as usual over there. The fish have been scattered in depth from 50 to 160 feet.

Locally, we had a decent day off the “Hump” yesterday landing a couple of beauties, including a 21 pounder! The fish have been quite a bit shallower than normal this year, 40 to 100 feet have been the ticket over the last week.

We highly recommend a full 10 hour day trip to the Gulf Island’s right now. Give us a call or email if you would like to book a trip!

The Gulf Island’s definately did not disappoint today! Bon Chovy started off the South End of Bowen Island today with not too much to show for it after trolling for 45 minutes. The Seastar was on a two day trip to the Gulf Island’s and had an excellent afternoon/evening yesterday and were having a great start to the morning. So, after hearing the action was good Bon Chovy and Van Herring bombed across Georgia Strait to Gabriola Island. In the first 2 hours of fishing over there, Bon Chovy landed 6 legal chinook! Having only one guest on board (lucky Vinny!), we kept a couple nice ones and released the rest. We then switched gears and fished a couple reefs and hooked some nice ling cod! Van Herring had a great day as well having a crack at a dozen chinook salmon. Their conversion ratio was not great and managed to land 5 of the 12 salmon they hooked. (2 legal and 3 undersize) They finished up the day getting a couple nice lings as well before going home! Both boats also got limits of dungeness crabs! Great weather and great fishing today! Now is the time to do 10 hour charters to the Gulf Islands!

The last few days have seen some better numbers of fish off the South End of Bowen Island, the Gulf Islands and into Vancouver Harbour. There are obviously some slow periods, but persistance typically pays off with some good hook ups! Right now you can expect to hook 3 to 6 fish a trip, and if you catch the bite even more!

The chinook fishery that takes place off the southern side of Bowen Island usually lights up during the middle of April.. This year the fishery has gotten going a little bit late. None the less, they are here now!! Anchovies have been by far our best producers down 60-120 feet. Other anglers are reporting good results on green and white hootchies, coyote spoons, and gypsy spoons.

From now until late June extended 10 hour charters to the Gulf Islands are a great option. May and June are typically VERY consistent over there and it is not uncommon to hook a dozen chinook salmon a trip over there! In addition there is good opportunity to fish for ling cod up to 25 pounds on our Gulf Island trips!

Crabbing remains good in the harbour and crab traps are dropped on every charter!

Give us a call or email to get out on a Vancouver Fishing Charter! Check out our packages page. Now is the time to do a quick overnight package to the Gulf Islands or Bowen Island. We offer 2 full days of fishing and accomodation from $589.00.

Well over the last week the Gulf Islands have lit up in a big way! There have been numerous reports of some solid chinook fishing up to 25 pounds! This is no surprise as last year at this time things got REALLY good over there! NOW…is the time to start doing the longer 10 hour charters over to the Eastern shoreline of Gabriola Island. The run from our dock is approximately an hour!

Locally things have picked up over the last few days with better numbers of fish off the South End of Bowen Island and also deep inside Vancouver Harbour. Anchovies and herring have been taking a good percentage of the fish now!

Crabbing remains excellent in Vancouver Harbour. Prawning is good as of now, but will quickly slow as the commercial guys are set to start their season this week!

Give us a call if you want to head out on the water! There is good opportunity locally and even better opportunity over on the Gulf Island side.

Another solid day in Vancouver Harbour today. The weather cooperated and so did the fish! We had a shot at 5 good chinook salmon and we were able to land 3 nice ones! The fish over the last week have been scattered in depth. It is a good idea to stagger your gear this time of year as the fish can be as high a 30 feet and as deep as 175 feet! We focused our efforts between 60 and 120 feet today. The next month should provide some of the better chinook fishing of the year in local waters. It is a good time to do a Vancouver Fishing Charter!

Crabbing has been really good and we are dropping traps on all of our charters!
