Had a great day over on the Gulf Islands today.  It was a little damp in the morning, but the sun broke through in the afternoon..  Fishing was very good as well.  We ended up with a limit of chinook up to 20 pounds for the guys from Colorado.  During the course of the day we had a crack at 10 chinook salmon!  We were not the only ones getting fish!  We had our best success fishing spoons and hootchies from 100-200 feet.  June is quite often the best month to fish the Gulf Islands!                                                         june-1-028

MAY 29th FISHING UPDATE

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 5:40 pm

We have had some pretty solid fishing over the last week!  Especially on our longer 8 and 10 hour trips to the Gulf Islands.  Some really nice fish up to 20 pounds have made it back to our dock this week as well as  lots of dungeness crab!  We have focused our efforts off of Gabriola Island.  Thrasher Rock and the Grande have produced well on the ebb and flood respectively.  Last Saturday there was a 37 pounder weighed in to take top honours at the North Vancouver Fish and Game Club derby on Gabriola Island.  So there is some real good quality over there!  Locally, we have had some good success in the harbour and there was some good action off the South End of Bowen Island this morning.  We got our first  decent coho salmon this week as well!  It will not be long before West Vancouver catches fire for hatchery coho!! Last year there was some great action for coho in the second week of June!!!!      may-29-021may-29-022

BOTH VAN HERRING AND  BON CHOVY HAD VERY GOOD DAYS OVER ON THE GULF ISLANDS YESTERDAY.  BON CHOVY ENDED UP KEEPING FIVE LEGAL FISH UP TO 19 POUNDS AND VAN HERRING LANDED 4 LEGAL FISH UP TO 17 POUNDS.  THERE WERE ALSO UNDERSIZE FISH AND LOST FISH IN THE MIX AS WELL!  DEFINATELY WORTH THE RUN OVER!  LOCALLY THERE WAS THE ODD FISH PICKED UP OFF THE QA MARKER YESTERDAY, BUT OVERALL IT WAS PRETTY SLOW.  HOPEFULLY THE FISHING WILL PICK UP ON THE VANCOUVER SIDE AS THE TIDES MELLOW OUT THIS WEEK! IF NOT THE GULF ISLANDS ARE DEFINATELY PRODUCING WELL!

Well after hearing some great reports from the Gulf Islands on the weekend we had to head across and give it a go.  Unfortunately the weather and the fish did not cooperate.  We did have a couple cracks at fish, but they did not stick.  After fighting the wind and chop off of Thrasher Rock for a few hours we decided to head back over to the Vancouver side to finish the day…It was definately a good call.  We had a sustained bite for an hour where we could not get all 4 of our rods in the water without a fish hitting.  We landed a couple legal fish, a few undersize, missed a few, and lost a several good fish between 2pm and 3pm.

Van Herring got an early start today and experienced some excellent action landing 4 legal fish in the first hour of fishing!  The bite trailed off after 8am and the fish were a little harder to come by!  Bon Chovy had a reasonable morning as well despite a later start.  There were some VERY good reports from the far side of the Strait this morning..It looks like it is time to make some longer trips!

We had a couple very solid charters over the last couple days.  Yesterday, we had some good action with 8 fish hitting the gear…  We lost a couple to seals, landed a couple nice legal fish, lost a couple, and had a couple undersize.  Our good friend Oli fishing the same area as us had some great results as well..landing 4 legal chinook and losing a few in the first couple hours.  Today, the fishing was a little slower but consistent for us..  We were able to land 4 nice legal chinook and a couple undersize.   We also had a few missed opportunities.  We found the bulk of our fish a little closer to the harbour again.   Crabbing was great as usual!         may-03-025

Vancouver Fishing Update..May 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 6:22 pm

We had a great day on the water yesterday with a corporate team taking 2 of our Grady White’s for a days fishing…  We had some really good action in the morning with a good number of fish hitting the gear.  Anchovies were definately the ticket between 70-120 feet.  Unfortunately the wind came up in the 2nd half of the morning chasing us out of the most productivities fishing grounds.  We ended the day with 6 legal chinook, a few undersize, and a number of missed opportunities.  We found the fish a little closer to Vancouver harbour yesterday.  Crabbing was good as usual and we got some good numbers of prawns as well.

VANCOUVER FISHING REPORT..APRIL 29

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 6:12 pm

WE HAD SOME CONTINUED GOOD RESULTS OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS!  WE  HAVE AVERAGED BETWEEN 5 TO 10 HOOK UPS A TRIPS WITH A MIXTURE OF NICE CHINOOK UP TO 20 POUNDS, UNDERSIZE CHINOOK, AND SMALL COHO.  YESTERDAY MORNING WE HAD A CRACK AT 10 FISH, LANDING ONE LEGAL CHINOOK AND 3 UNDERSIZE.  IN THE AFTERNOON CRAIG ON THE SALTY DOG HAD SOME DECENT ACTION LANDING A FEW UNDERSIZE AND A NICE MID TEENS CHINOOK.  THE FISH ARE IN POCKETS AND IF YOU CAN FIND A POCKET OF FISH AND WORK IT, YOU CAN GET SOME PRETTY QUICK ACTION..  THERE WAS A COUPLE REPORTS OF KILLER WHALES FEEDING OFF THE SOUTH END OF BOWEN ON TUESDAY, WHICH COULD OF BEEN A REASON OF A LITTLE MORE SPORADIC ACTION YESTERDAY.
