Aug 30 Update

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason @ 5:05 pm

Been extremely busy on the water recently!   There has been LOTS of fish out there!  There are millions of pinks (almost too many) still some nice sockeye and some real nice chinook!  We have been spending a lot of time off the Fraser Mouth and the Bell Buoy!   Just put your time in and you will get bites!  Pink hootchies and flashers are the way to go!

There has been some good waves of big chinook pushing through as well!   So a good piece of bait on one of the lines quite often pays off!

Bon Chovy had an epic day on the local saltchuck yesterday hooking big numbers of chinook up to 26 pounds!  In total 13 chinook were hooked and 6 were landed!  It was one of those days where the big fish were biting all day!  West Vancouver and the middle of Vancouver Harbour were the places to be!  Bait was the way to go with the big fish cranking it off the riggers!  In addition a few pinks and coho were hooked!  Awesome day!

AUGUST 11th Report

Aug 12 Fishing Report

August is here and so are the fish!!!  We have so many different fisheries going on right now, it is just a matter of picking one!   First off, sockeye are open!  We made ourfirst sockeye trip today and did quite well, hooking a dozen fish in a few hours. Numbers will continue to build so it should just get better.  In Vancouver Harbour, theWest Van shoreline has been producing chinooks up to 30 pounds, coho, pinks, and the odd sockeye.  This fishery is great for a half day trip as it is literally 10 minutes from
our dock location at the Westin Bayshore in downtown Vancouver.  In Howe Sound, there has been lots of pinks around some of the creek mouths!  We made a couple trips up there this week and hooked huge numbers of pinks on our little spinning rods!  A great fishery for kids and those who like lots of action!

As we progess into August we will see the numbers of sockeye and pinks increase as well as see waves of big Fraser bound chinook pass through local waters.

Now is the time to experience Vancouver fishing at its best.  There are obviously slow periods, but right now is definately a good bet to head out fishing in Vancouver!   Give us a call to book a charter!!!   We still have some room for this weekend!

Here is a couple nice chinook from yesterday evening!

The big news of the day is that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans have opened sockeye as of tomorrow!!!!   The run is coming in stronger than forecasted and it looks like we should have a pretty good fishery!!!!!  Great News

Van Herring had a solid morning with a mixed bag of nice chinook, coho and pink salmon.  The fish were caught only 10 mins from our dock along the West Vancouver shoreline!

We made a run over to the Gulf Islands with Troy and the boys for a stag event yesterday.   The salmon bite was a little slow …. so we mixed things up a bit and spent a bit of time doing some bottomfishing.

On the way home from the Gulf Islands we made a pit stop to have a beverage or two at of Vancouver’s finest beaches!

JULY 27 REPORT

Some encouraging results locally over the last couple days.   There has been increasing numbers of fish off the West Van shoreline and off the Bell Boy and Fraser Mouth .  A couple boats did well yesterday landing some pinks, coho, and a chinook or two of West Van yesterday.

August looks like it is going to be a great month to fish locally.  We should have quite a few different fisheries going on!

Jeff on Van Herring spent a couple hours in the outer reaches of Vancouver Harbour and had a shot at 3 good chinook this evening.

Bon Chovy fished the Gulf Islands today and hooked a few nice fish!  The nicest fish of the day was released!  Here is a pic before it was released!
