Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report, May 3rd
Things are starting to perk up on the Gulf Islands over the last few days.. There has been some pretty good periods of activity over the last few mornings with some VERY nice fish up to 32 pounds being landed by the fleet. We made it over there on Wednesday and Thursday and landed some nice chinook and ling cod. Good to see things starting to roll over there. it is almost like clock work that the fish show up in late April and early May. There was some decent action off the South End of Bowen Island on the weekend, but haven't heard much from the area recently as we have been over on the other side of Georgia Strait.Early May is typically the time of year where the Gulf Island's, Vancouver Harbour, and the South End of Bowen Island all offer good chinook salmon fishing. As we get into the 3rd and 4th week of May everything will shift to the Gulf Island's. Sometimes there can be some good fishing in late May and June around Vancouver, but the Gulf Island's are at their best in late May thru June and is hard to beat.
Luke has been out on the Lower Fraser River getting his guests into some nice sturgeon over the last week. Things have slowed a bit over the last week as the river is on the rise. Even with the higher water, sturgeon fishing will continue to be productive and tactics have to be adjusted to get out of the current. It appears as though there is a pretty decent return of eulachons in the river as there was lots of seals and birds feeding in the Lower Fraser.
