Vancouver Fishing Report, April 15th

Our spring chinook fishery is now in full swing in local waters.  With the great weather forecasted this coming week, we should be in for some solid fishing in Vancouver!

h5 The last week has seen some very good numbers of chinook salmon in the 10 to 30 pounds in local waters.  Calm water days have definitely helped fishing out as we are fishing the exposed water  in Georgia Strait for the most part.   We have focused our efforts on the South End of Bowen Island, the Hump, and the QA Marker.  On the days that are windy, we are finding some decent fish in Howe Sound and Vancouver Harbour.   These spring chinook salmon are heavily feeding on herring and they are moving around quite quickly. The key is to stay on them, once you find them. We have had our best results around the mellower periods in the tides.   Our best depths have been from 70 to 130 feet.

We have been running a lot of bait out there over the last week.  Our most productive set up has been the Guide Series Bon Chovy Flasher and an anchovy in  chartreuse splatter back Rhys Davis Teaser Heads..  We have had the odd fish on our favourite Silver Horde and G Force spoons as well as a few fish on white UV hootchies.

This chinook fishery should continue to be consistent for the next month or so in Vancouver waters.  If you are looking at getting out to do a local 5 hour salmon charter, now is the time to go!  As of mid May, we will likely start recommending 10 hour trips to the Gulf Islands. Sturgeon fishing has also been productive in the Lower Fraser River.  Luke has been getting his guests into some nice 6 foot plus sturgeon over the last week.  Our sturgeon boat is only 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver!

h3   The weather looks like it is going to get summer like over the next week!    Give us a call if you would like to get out on the water!
