Winter Salmon Fishing Report - February 07/18

We have continued to enjoy consistent salmon fishing over the last number of weeks.  Having said that, it seems that you have to weed through the undersized a bit more than the last couple winters.  Most trips are seeing a nice legal salmon or two, a good haul of prawns and some crabs to take home.   We will start to see some larger fish in local waters in the coming weeks as the schools of larger herring make their way into Howe Sound to spawn in March and April.

We have spent the majority of our time chasing winter chinook in Howe Sound and over in the Gulf Island's.  All the usual spots in Lower Howe Sound are producing fish depending on the day.   The eastern shoreline of Galiano Island has also seen some decent activity.  Like every other winter, locating bait is key to success this time of year.   When you are looking at your sounder, look for balls of bait, not broadcast bait.  Chances are if the bait is balled up, chinook salmon are the ones doing the balling!

Jason is over fishing in Sidney, BC and has been enjoying some pretty active salmon fishing and very good prawning on the charters he has done over the last week.  If you are looking to fish a different area this winter, Jason will be will be available to guide until early March in Sidney and the Southern Gulf Islands.  The beauty about the Sidney and the Southern Gulf Island's is the flat water!  It is usually like fishing on a lake.   Come over and fish and stay a night or two at the Sidney Pier Hotel!   www.sidneypier.com/en-us

Gear wise, we have been having most of our success dragging Skinny G's on the bottom in 100 to 200 feet..  We have not changed things up much this month as putting a Bon Chovy Skinny G on one rod and an Outfitter Skinny G on the other has been super consistent for us.  We have matched the Skinny G's up with Lemon Lime, Madi, Bon Chovy and STS Guide Series Flashers.

We are running our winter special until March 31st/2018.  If you are looking to get on the water to target winter chinook, prawns and crab, check out this deal and link!   Come and find out why winter is our favourite time to fish in Vancouver.
