Excellent Salmon Fishing in Vancouver

The last couple weeks have been about as good as it gets for chinook salmon in Southern Georgia Strait.  We have experienced some excellent catch and release chinook salmon fishing, especially off the South End of Bowen Island,  the Gulf Island's and up the Sunshine Coast.

We had a couple very successful multi day trips over the last couple weekends that had some of the best chinook fishing we have seen in quite some time.  We even landed a nice halibut last weekend!!   While we can't say how long this excellent fishing will continue,  there sure seems to be good numbers of chinook salmon around right now!

As we progress into June, our local fishery will transition around the middle of the month, and we will likely start to search out in the deeper water for schools of coho salmon.  Last year, in June and early July there were some excellent numbers of coho salmon off the South End of Bowen Island and off the East Side of Gabriola Island.  We are hoping or a similar pattern this year.  We are currently open for 2 hatchery coho salmon per day.

Smaller spoons like the G Force 3.0s or Silver Horde 3.0s are often good bets for early coho as are glow or white hootchies!  For chinook salmon we have been running quite Skinny G's and Silver Horde Spoons in the Herring Aide and Killy Mcgee Patterns.  The Yamashita Chartruese Spackleback hootchie is also one that should always be in the water in the spring and early summer!

We have spent quite a bit of time fishing for salmon in the Gulf Islands over the last couple weeks.  The Gulf Island's will be a very good bet on our longer charters for the next couple months for chinook, coho and ling cod.

The Gulf Island's are open to the retention of coho salmon (hatchery only) and ling cod.  Chinook are open for retention as of July 15th in Area 17.  If the weather agrees, the Gulf Island trips are often a very good bet in June, July and Early August.

Wildlife sightings have been abundant on our trips in recent weeks!  We have seen Killer Whales, Humpback Whales, Porpoises, Seals, Sea Lions, Bald Eagles and River Otters!

Give us a call to get out on the water, summer is on it's way!
