Winter Salmon Fishing Report! Good fishing!

Fishing in Vancouver this past January was pretty darn good.   We fished the normal areas in Howe Sound and Vancouver Harbour and found some nice fish with consistency.   Hopefully winter salmon fishing in February and March is just as consistent.

The overall number of winter chinook salmon has increased since earlier in the winter, but on most days, you have to responsibly release a reasonable number of undersized in between the keepers.   On average, we have averaged 2 to 4 nice keepers on our full day trips.   We have been finding more whites/marble chinook in the mix the past month.   This is not surprising as the Chilliwack Hatchery has doubled their fall chinook releases from 1 million to two million smolts in recent years.    This is good news for our winter fishery as we traditionally see more white/marble chinook in the late winter and spring.    Some years, like last year, we see exceptional fishing off the Bell Buoy and outer Vancouver Harbour in mid to late March for these same white/marble chinook.  It feels like this year is going to be solid with the good numbers around already.

We have been finding some prawns in the areas that have remained opened.   Crabbing has been mediocre in the harbour.

We have been keeping things simple and just running spoons and hootchies like usual.   In particular the Trailhead and Bon Chovy G Force and Skinny G spoons have been working very well.  Straight glow and Green or Chartreuse Spackleback Hootchies have been good as well.

We have been fishing on Vancouver Island as well from our Sidney location.   Fishing has been good, with consistent action most days.    Here is a link to our Vancouver Island page!

We are running our winter chinook special from now till the end of March!!!! If you are looking to get out on the water for a great rate, have a look at this link..

Hope to see you on our boats or on the water!!!    Give us a call or an email to book a charter!
